Flashback to September 2019 – Crossing the Loma Linda Bridge

Late Night Shopping Trip, Crossing La Loma Bridge, oil on linen panel, 8 x 10”

It is hard for me to look back on the above painting because of my innocence at believing the world was whatever we wanted it to be.  Thinking that we were masters of our own destinies.

I am happy to announce that my painting Late Night Shopping Trip, Crossing La Loma Bridge, was accepted into the 20th Anniversary Exhibition: California Art Club at the Old Mill. Come join me at the reception on Thursday September 12 2019, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. My painting will be on exhibit from September 10 – January 12, 2020. Along with a group of celebrated artists, primarily from California.

Before this show was hung, the California Art Club hosted a paint out at the Old Mill.  The day was hot and sunny, perfect for painting a historic site.  There was food, drink and shade – all I needed to paint.  I decided to paint the building itself.

The Old Mill Paint Out, oil on canvas panel, 11 x 14” (sold)

The Old Mill is the permanent gallery for the California Art Club.  There are themes to each of the shows that are put on and all of us compete to be  of the handful selected.  The competition is stiff and I have only been in a few.  Each time there is a show I attend, wether or not I am in the show.  I go to celebrate the artists that got in, admire their work and look for new places to paint at. There is nothing like seeing delicate brushstrokes, new compositions and color combinations from a room full of living artists.

Once I am well enough I will go back to the Old Mill to view some outstanding paintings and see if I can sketch in the gardens once more.

The Old Mill is a beautiful historic building in San Marino, California. It is surrounded by stately homes, winding  shady streets and old trees.
